Country Trust Plant Your Pants campaign

Plant Your Pants Campaign Returns for its Second Year

As the world evolves, so does our understanding of the intricate web of life that sustains us. Among the unsung heroes of this ecosystem lies beneath our very feet - soil. Yet, for many, the soil remains an enigmatic entity, often overlooked and underappreciated. The Country Trust, fueled by a passion for reconnecting people with the land, is once again spearheading its innovative campaign: Plant Your Pants.

The premise is simple yet profound: bury a pair of cotton pants in the soil around the first day of spring and witness the magic unfold. As we delve into this shared journey of exploration, we embark on a quest to understand the vitality of healthy soil and its profound impact on our lives.

Jill Attenborough, CEO of The Country Trust, articulates the mission eloquently: "Over time, we hope to build a nationwide understanding of the vital importance of soil, and the role each of us can play in making our soil healthy. We’ll spark connection and curiosity along the way, guiding people how to look for signs of life, understand what it means and why it matters to each of us."

The Plant Your Pants campaign is not merely about burying garments; it's a catalyst for change, igniting a collective consciousness about the significance of soil health. Through this initiative, participants - whether families, schools, gardeners, or farmers - embark on a transformative journey of discovery. By engaging with the soil firsthand, we cultivate a deeper appreciation for its complexity and resilience.

Tom Fairfax, a regenerative organic farmer and staunch advocate for soil health, emphasises the profound impact of this endeavour: "Healthy soil is teeming with life, much of which can’t be seen by the naked eye, so getting our hands in the soil and seeing the way it acts on a pair of cotton pants is a brilliant way to experience its magic."

The Plant Your Pants campaign transcends mere environmentalism; it is a call to action, a plea for unity in safeguarding our most precious resource. As we witness the disintegration of the buried pants, we are reminded of the symbiotic relationship between humanity and the earth. Each thread that decomposes symbolises our collective effort towards nurturing and preserving our soil for generations to come.

Last year, 23,000 individuals joined this noble cause, and the call is now amplified for even greater participation. With a target of 30,000 participants this year, the campaign seeks to inspire a wave of change across the United Kingdom.

So, let us heed the call of the soil, let us embrace the magic beneath our feet, and let us plant our pants with a sense of purpose and reverence. For in doing so, we not only enrich our soil but also nurture the very essence of life itself. Together, let us sow the seeds of a brighter, more sustainable future.

Are you ready to join the movement? Plant your pants, and let the journey begin.
