Welcome back to another adventure in Laundryland! There has been a hiatus in reviews recently as my other half decreed that I wasn’t allowed to buy any more laundry products until I’d used up all the ones under the sink. I have now finished my top 5 eco laundry detergents and am ready to begin again. For the past couple of weeks, we’ve been using Bio-D’s non-bio laundry powder.
Bio-D is an Ethical Consumer Best Buy, so I had to give it a try. Made from plant-based ingredients and accredited by Allergy UK, its hypoallergenic, concentrated formula is gentle on sensitive skin. Bio-D is also certified B Corp, Vegan and Cruelty-Free, and is suitable for septic tanks. Sounds impressive. But how well does it cope with the muck monsters?
How well does Bio-D clean?
We threw everything we had at Bio-D. Smelly swimming gear that sat in a classroom for nearly a week? No problem. Towels that spent a bit too long in the laundry basket? Came out perfectly fresh. But how did it cope with school uniform?
The youngest is renowned for her messy school jumpers, and this week, having gone up a size due to her crazy post-Christmas growth spurt, had a brand new school jumper to smear life all over. And she didn’t disappoint…
But at 40 °, Bio-D wiped the slate clean!
How much does Bio-D cost per wash?
A 1kg box costs £5.02 from the Bio-D website (minus shipping). The recommended 30g for a normal wash in soft water will set you back 25p per wash. Total bargain. I used slightly more as our water is medium/hard, which cost 35p per wash. Not the worst.
Would I use Bio-D non-bio Laundry Powder again?
Bio-D did a fantastic job. Every load of laundry came out smelling fresh and clean. There’s no fragrance, but I can live with that as the results were so good. Would I use it again? Absolutely!
